click above and scroll down below the section on Design and Purpose for the instructions on opportunities and limitations
Strand 3
Be able to originate and plan television idents to a brief
you will need:
a BUDGET
a SCHEDULE/GANT CHART
EQUIPMENT & CREW (some of you have ‘employed’ designers to draw your imagery, others actors, some of you are getting imagery from online so pretend you have this from a ‘STOCK PHOTOGRAPHY’ site and mention them and include prices for the image in your BUDGET)
ASSET LOG
RISK ASSESSMENT
A RECCE (if you need one)
and as mentioned in an earlier post -
A DETAILED PROPOSAL
STORYBOARDS or ANNOTATED CONCEPT SKETCHES (animated or drawn pictures - including an awareness of TIMINGS)
PRODUCTION LOG
Very important - if you want a Merit or Distinction you need to do a detailed LOG of all your activities using terminology (such as file types PNG, SWF, MOV such as ‘tweens’ & ‘keyframes’ etc) and illustrated with screen shots of certain aspects of your editing in whichever software you use ( Photoshop, Flash, Final Cut, After Effects) - you will need to cover most of the items below from the spec:
Strand 4
Be able to produce a television ident to a brief
Concepts and applications:
2D animation; 3D animation; stop motion; layering
(the type of animation you chose and why - and how important using layers was within the software)
Digital editing:
editing software; memory; file formats
(some details regarding file sizes - including pixel aspect ratios - did you choose HD, 1920x1080, or PAL, 720x576, or another ratio and why you chose this size - do a bit of quick google research on these - and importantly file formats and why you used these and the possible benefits and shortcomings of them - SWF, MOV, JPEG, PNG, FLA, AI etc)
Production management:
scheduling; meeting deadlines; (how well you stuck to your schedule)
management of resources; (booking cameras and/or using equipment - macs, scanners etc)
working to the client’s brief; liaison with clients; client negotiation; (how did your ident fit with the brief? what feedback did you receive from the client (I am the client so you can reflect on anything I may have talked to you about) and your audience? how did you respond to this?)
quality management; presentations (how did you decide what was the best quality for your finished ident - did you make a draft or 2 before presenting your final best quality work? how did you present your work?)
AS AN IMPORTANT PART OF THIS PROCESS YOU WILL NEED TO UPLOAD A WORKING DRAFT OF YOUR IDENT - OR SOME REALLY GOOD CONCEPT SKETCHES AND YOUR FINISHED PROPOSAL BEFORE OR DURING TUESDAY’S LESSON SO I (AS THE CLIENT) AND SOME MEMBERS OF YOUR AUDIENCE CAN GIVE YOU FEEDBACK.
Remember this inspiration is there to inspire you – so if you are struggling developing ideas go back and look at the research you have done on popplet to help get your creative ideas flowing
4. You also need ANNOTATED CONCEPT SKETCHESof your IDENT ideas (at least 3 or 4 ideas some can be quite throwaway - short and simple ideas - AND one being your final much more detailed & developed one).
These annotated sketches could be:
· annotated sketches of you ‘new’ channel logo
· annotated sketches of your ideas for the ident
· annotated sketches of characters and overall concepts
The ANNOTATIONS will describe what is happening in your Ident and also why you have chosen to design them as you have (i.e. How they respond to the requirements of the brief & How they will appeal to your Target Audience)
DEADLINE FOR PROPOSALS - YOU WILL BE PRESENTING YOUR PROPOSALS ON FRIDAY 13th MAY
not an especially formal presentation - but you will need to explain your ideas and answer some questions - the main point is to share your ideas and get some feedback
You are looking for images and graphics that inspire you and may give you some ideas for your IDENT
You need to present all of the below on a popplet page… and embed it in your website:
o Find 4 idents that inspire you… ADD to your popplet page (they should be idents form the playlist you have already made)
o Find 4 logos that inspire you… (add as pictures on your popplet)
o 2 examples of other moving image (other than idents – such as TV show title sequences, film trailer, animations and cartoons, Adverts… that include text/logos in some way)
o find 4 other examples of graphic design / advertising / web design / magazine design / CD covers etcetera
o add some basic text to each group of research (LOGOS, IDENTS, MOVING IMAGE, OTHER) explaining what you like and how it might inspire you
ADD THE “FLASH MOVIE” (SWF) TO YOUR WEEBLY ‘TV IDENTS’ PAGE
ON YOUR TUMBLR – WRITE UP THE FIRST PART OF YOUR PRODUCTION LOG – EXPLAINING WHAT YOU DID IN FLASH (USE KEY TERMS LIKE “KEYFRAMES” “TWEENS” ETC “LAYERS”) HOW YOU CUT OUT YOUR LOGO IN PHOTOSHOP & SAVED AS A “PNG” FILE SO IT WAS TRANSPARENT ETC….
BRIEFLY SAY WHAT YOU LIKED/DIDN’T LIKE ABOUT FLASH AND HOW YOU COULD SEE IT BEING USEFUL IN THE FUTURE (OR NOT AS THE CASE MAY BE)
